What does the law of demand predict will happen to the number of abortions when abortion is made legal? How would you respond to the comment: “the law of demand doesn’t apply to desperate women seeking an abortion.”?
Law of demand says that price and quantity demanded have inverse
relationship with each other but I must say abortion have the
inelastic demand which says that quantity consumed in the market
would remain the same at any prices. When abortion was illegal,
consumers were paying higher prices to for it and those who need
it, were getting it. Now after it has been made legal, its prices
would fall while the quantity remains the same. So it can be said
that law of demand do not apply to desperate women because legal or
not, it did not create any difference for them.
