Please explain the accounting entries of the given problem as per Ind AS 16. The above question needs to be answered as the provisions of deferred credit terms contained in Ind AS 16. Also, please elaborate how to identify whether a given problem covers the case of deferred credit terms.

  • As per IND AS - 16, if payment deferred beyond the normal credit terms then difference between the cash price equivalent and total payment is recognised as Interest Expenses over the credit period unless it is capitalised as per IND AS - 23.
  • In present case, payment for property is also beyond the normal credit terms therefore, it will be recognised as per above provision.
  • Following are the related terms of given problem :-

Cash Price Equivalent = 10M - 5% (Discount) = 9.5M

Total Payment = 10M

Interest = .5M (It will be recognised over the credit period)

  • Journal Entries of above case study :-

On 1st April, 2017 :-

Property, Plant and Equipment Dr    95,00,000

To Cash 33,33,333

To Trade payable for PPE 61,66,667

Note :-

  • PPE (Property, Plant and Equipment recorded at Cash Price Equivalent.

On 31st March, 2018:-

Interest Expense (Finance Charge) Dr 3,30,533

Trade payable for PPE Dr 30,02,800

To Cash 33,33,333

Note :-

  • Interest Expense = 61,66,667 * 5.36% = 3,30,533

On 31st March, 2019:-

Interest Expense (Finance Charge) Dr 1,69,467

Trade Payable for PPE Dr 31,63,867

To Cash 33,33,334

Note :-

  • Interest Expense = 5,00,000 - 3,30,533 (Recognised Earlier) = 1,69,467
