Problem 1 - Sunlight on a Summer Day It is noon on a summer day and the sun is 20° away from being directly overhead, and it is south of straight above you. Your home has a window that is lm by 1.2m and facing south. Sun light strikes all of your window and the intensity of the light is 900W/m2. (a) What is the total power of sun light striking your window? (b) If we assume that 10% of the light striking your window reflects off the window and 90% passes through the window into your home, what is the power of light energy that enters your home? Problem 2 A Glass Box Consider a glass box that is a lm cube, with one corner occupying the origin and three edges of the box lying along the +x-axis, ty-axis and +z-axis, where the +z-axis points upwards, the +x-axis points right and the ty-axis points towards you as you stand in front of the box Now consider the sun to be straight overhead, with the intensity of sun light to be: 800pointing straight down (a) Find the flux that enters the box from all 6 surfaces. Because we want to calculate the flux entering the box, we have a sign convention, Ф is positive at a surface where sunlight enters the box and negative at a surface where sunlight exits the box. (b) Now you place a black circle of sheet metal that has a radius of 25cm inside of your box suspended centered within your box. You turn this black metal circle so that it lies within the x- y plane. Assume that since the metal is black that all light hitting it is absorbed. Find the new net flux entering your box with this horizontal circle of black metal in your box. Show some mathematical work supporting your answer and write a sentence justifying your approach (c) Now you orient your circle of sheet metal so that the surface normal makes a 45 degree angle with the vertical direction. Find the new net flux entering your box with this titled circle of black metal in your box. Show some mathematical work supporting your answer.

The ACME Manufacturing Company has hired you to help automate their production assembly line. Cameras have been placed above a conveyer belt to enables parts on the belt to be photographed and analyzed. You are to augment the system that has been put in place by writing C code to detect the number of parts on the belt, and the positions of each object. The process by which you will do this is called Connected Component Labeling (CCL). These positions...
