Ans. The reason behind the difference in measured and calculated flow depth ratio are various energy losses which occurs due to presence of silt, friction of wind at the surface, non-uniformity in channel section, irregularity in channel bed due to deposition of unwanted material etc.

Since calculated flow depth ratio is obtained by assuming ideal channel bed which is not practically possible, hence actual flow depth ratio varies from calculated flow depth ratio.
