CLED is a combination of Blood Agar and MacConkey agar combined. Major constituents of CLED agar are Lactose, Pancreatic digest of gelatin and casein, beef extract, cystine, pH indicator Bromothymol blue and Agar. Bromothymol Blue is the pH indicator to differentiate lactose fermenters from lactose-nonfermenters. Organisms capable of fermenting lactose will lower the pH and change colour of the medium from green to yellow.
