Theoretical yield of copper (II) oxide:

  copper (II) oxide = CuO

The balanced equation for synthesis of CuO from Cu is

2Cu + O2 ---------------> 2CuO  

Molar mass of Cu = 63.54 g/mol

Molar mass of CuO = 79.54 g/mol

Given that mass of copper wire = 0.64 g

Then,

  2Cu + O2   ---------------> 2CuO

2 mol 2 mol

2 x 63.54 g/mol 2 x 79.54 g/mol

0.64 g ?

Then,

? = ( 0.64 g/ 2 x 63.54 g) x ( 2 x 79.54 g/mol )

= 0.8 g of CuO

Therefore,

Theoretical yield of copper (II) oxide = 0.8 g
