1. Radiopharmaceutical are defined as radioactive drugs which are used for diagnosis and therapy purpose. Two examples are and their side effects are:-
1. I-131 sodium iodide .It's side effect are chills ,nausea ,vomiting ,itching,hives ,chest pain ,feeling of heaviness , tachycardia , headache dizziness .
2. P -32 sodium phosphate . It's side effect are myelosuppression , bone pain .
2. Example of radiopharmaceutical that have concerns for breast feeding patients.
= Tc-99m
every radioacive drugis harmful for the infant. Mothes should b instructed to avoid breast feeding if they are tking radiopharmaceutical because it is excreated in breast milk and cause various harmful side effects to the baby. You don't have to completely stop breast feeding ,but depending on the drug discontinue feeding for some particular time or even you can excreat milk prior to therapy and store it and use it during the therapy period.
3. According, to the Treves article 2011, the recommended dose of 99m Tc - MDP for pediatric patient is 9.3 MBq/kg.
then ,for a 40 kg child it will be 9.3×40= 372MBq/kg. This is the maximum dose we can give to the child. Dose range will be140 to 370 MBq.
