The mayor of city has consulted you to determine whether the city needs an asset management system for its road infrastructure. What reasons would you give to support the need for the AMS? Q.1. In the highways context - where the asset is the highway itself - the aim is to provide a structured approach to roads maintenance to enable highway authorities to operate, maintain and restore their 'highway assets' to meet key performance requirements.

The road asset (excluding structures) includes more than just the pavement; it also includes earthworks, drainage, safety barriers, lighting, signs, lines and the soft estate (grassland, trees and shrubs.) ... They are used in the HA's bidding and prioritisation process for maintenance of all road assets.
