The “theory-practice gap,” as some have called it, has prevented our profession from full utilization of its knowledge base in practice, and has impeded the view of nursing as a theoretically based discipline, to its detriment. There are distinctly different viewpoints to this argument, based on the different perspectives of academics and theoreticians on the one hand and that of practitioners on the other. Being honest about your reaction, and applying critical thinking skills to the question, where do you stand on the issue, and why?

The development of the discipline of nursing has gone through many stages of philosophical debates. Justify the relevance and utility of the knowledge of theory development to your practice.

Nursing is an art and science. The successful care of a patient depends on the level of knowledge the nurse have to provide a rationalized care.But at times this cannot be used effectively where the practionwr order has to be followed back to back without any time to think.A nurse who can overcome this and think critically succeed in the best practice.

The relevance and utility of the knowledge of theory has lead to a lot of development some of them are as following

• Evidence based practice has prevented many error by doing timely actions
• The theory and nursing practice helps providing intervention on physiological problems,psychosocial problems,families,health promotion, illness prevention
• Enabled to have a greater impact on caring for chemotherapy patients
• Nearly 550 nursing intervention has been developed and applied in daily practice.
