Pi bonds are the bonds which form by the sidewise overlap of atomic orbitals. And sigma bonds are the bonds which form by head on overlap of atomic orbitals. Pi bonds always occur in multiple bonds between two atoms . A double bond contain one sigma and one pi whereas a pi bond contains one sigma two pi bonds . Applying the above rule to calculate no of pi bonds within box :

no of double bonds =12, si number of pi bonds =12.

no. of triple bonds =3,so number of pi bonds =3×2=6.

So total number of pi bonds = 12+6

=18.
