Margin of safety ratio = Margin of safety/Present sales

= 55,000/86,000

= 63.95%

Contribution margin per unit = Selling price per unit - Variable cost per unit

= 43-15.91

= $27.09

Present contribution margin = Contribution margin per unit x Number of units sold

= 27.09 x 2,000

= $54,180

Increase in contribution margin needed = 41%

= 54,180 x 41%

= $22,214

Increase in contribution margin needed = Increase in sales x Contribution margin ratio

22,214 = Increase in sales x 63%

Increase in sales = 22,214 x 100/63

= $35,260
