Investments in Intangibles:

An intangible asset is an asset that is not physical in nature. Goodwill, intellectual property and Brand recognition such as patents, trademarks, and copyrights, are all intangible assets.

In the instance given, the Company has invested a significant amount towards Franchisee agreement costs which is capitalized and shown as Intangibles. These costs primarily relate to stamp duty and other agreement related costs on acquisition of a franchisee. Since it involves outgo of cash, it is shown as cash outflow in the Cash flow statement and the costs are capitalized which will be amortized in the profit & loss statement over a period of time.
