why is the nucleophile attaching to the middle carbon (the diagram on the bottom)? why doesnt it attach to the carbon on the right side?

my professors says its not because of more or less space on either sides, nor because of hybridization. please help thanks.

A small the charge is developed on this carbon also because of inductive effect s But charge on - Ć - is much highes (carbonyl carbon) than that on te- (methyl carbon) Hence nucleophilic attack takes place on C (carbonyl carbon)
