Exercise 1 Suppose a fusion power plant operates at the pressure (- 7 atm) and temperature (s 150 x 10° K) planned for ITER, and suppose the plasma volume equals that of ITER (840 m2) as well. Assuming that the plasma contains equal numbers of d and t nuclei, estimate how long such a fusion reactor could provide fusion power equal to 1 GW before it would have to be refuelled. Reminder: total energy release from one d-t fusion event is 17.6 Mev Hint: Calculate the electron density first then you should be able to deduce the time.
