It consists of five main activities:

• Receiving
• Decoding
• Remembering
• Evaluating
• Responding

2-7.

In many day-to-day situations, in education and at work, when you listen to the news, watch a documentary, when a friend tells you a recipe or when you are talked-through a technical problem with a computer, you use content listening to learn and gather something useful.

Whereas in critical listening, we listen to evaluate or scrutinise what is being said. It is a mmuch more active behaviour than the content listening and usually involves some sort of problem solving or decision making.

Whereas in empathic listening, we listen to understand the feelings and emotions of the speaker. It is a way of deeply connecting with another person.(Not same as sympathy, involves more than being compassionate for somebody)

• Gesture and posture
• Vocal characteristics
• Personal appearance
• Touch
• Time and space

Mobile devices for the workplace and social environment can be disruptive and annoying. Unethical behaviors such as obnoxious ringtones, speaking loudly in open offices or public locations, making excessive or unnecessary telephone calls during working hours, invading somebody's privacy, making calls in toilets and other inappropriate locations may pose distinctive etiquette difficulties.
