Answer #1

Ans - (a) Break-even = Fixed cost/ Weighted average contribution of all the DRGs

First of all, let's find the percentage of all the DRGs with respect to the total number of patients

Total Patients = 200+400+350 =950

Therefore weights or percentages of DRGs = Number of Patients of DRGs/Total No of patients

Therefore DRGs1 = 200/950=21.05%, DRGs2 =400/950=42.21%, DRGs3=350/950=36.84%

Now Contribution of DRGs = Price Per patient - Variable Cost

Therefore DRGs1 = 450-300= 150, DRGs2=1500-1200=300 DRGs3 =1150-900=250.

Now Total Average contribution of all the DRGs = Percentage of DRGs1*Contribution of DRGs1+Percentage of DRGs2*contribution of DRGs2+Percentage of DRGs3*Contribution of DRGs3

Please refer to the Picture below to find the complete answer of a and c

(b) Product mix of DRGs will remain to be constant irrespective of changes in the number of patients or volume. The percentage of patients with each DRGs will remain constant in the future irrespective of its changes in volume.

(c) Volumes of Individual DRGs will be Percentage of Drugs* Break Even Volume

Note- Here very excel function is being used. please put = sign before calculating and wherever percentage is given divide it by 100 don't put percentage sign you will get wright answer.
