The ultimate goal of setup reduction is to reduce the setup times drastically so that the lead time upon receiving an order is minimized, production is faster and not necessarily in big batches, and wastage is minimized. Setup reduction also involves converting changeover steps during manufacturing process to external where possible, and also simplify and streamline the other steps during manufacturing.These improvements are typical of a SMED setup.

Hence, making setup times to single minutes as in SMED, is the ultimate goal of setup reduction (Option B).
