ESR stands for the erythrocyte sedimentation rate. it determines whether you have inflammation or not. in case of inflammation, red blood cells clump together which leads to the sinking of RBCs in the tube in which they are placed.

the normal ESR range for men and women depends on the age and are as follows -

• the normal ESR for women with age less than 50 is between 0 to 20 mm/hr
• the normal ESR for men under the age of 50 is between 0 to 15 mm/hr
• women with age above 50, the ESR is between 0 to 30 mm/hr while men with above age of 50 have 0 to 20 mm/hr
• children must have normal ESR 0 to 10 mm/hr
