A patient with a history of gall bladder disease complaints of midepigastric pain ,radiating to below the right shoulder blade area.

The most common type of pain experienced occurs when pain receptors,nociceptors ,respond to stimuli that are potentially damaging.it may occur as a result of trauma,surgery or inflammation.Silent noci-ceptors in viscera is not sufficiently activated to pain sensation by themselves. Nocicrptors respond to pain stimuli through A-delta,C and A-Beta fibres.Synapse onto pain pathways used by peripheral receptors. They facilitate second order neurons in pain pathway.
