Question

Refer to the schematic below. The boiler is supplied water at 200˚C at a rate of 650,000 kg per hour at 8MPa and heats it to 550˚C. The saturated feedwater entering the low-pressure pump is at 7.5KPa. The closed feed water heater operates at 1800KPa and while open feed water heater uses extracted steam at 275KPa. A steam trap delivers saturated water from the closed feed water heater to the open feed water heater. Saturated liquid leaves the open heater at 275KPa. The temperature of the cooling water increases from 15˚C to 27˚C with negligible pressure drop as it passes through the condenser.

a. Draw the T-S diagram using the same numbering as the schematic below
b. The net power developed in KW
c. The thermal efficiency of the cycle

P8-29 A closed feedwater heater is used in a Rankine cycle Steam leaves the boiler at 20 MPa, 600°C. Between the high and low-pressure turbines, steam at 1 MPa is extracted and delivered to the closed feedwater heater. Feedwater exits the feedwater heater at 20 MPa and the saturation temperature of the 1-MPa steam; saturated liquid condensate is fed through a steam trap back to the condenser. Steam from the second- stage turbine enters the condenser at 10 kPa, and...
