A particular snake enclosure features a spherical heating bulb, with a radius of 3 cm and surface temperature of 305 K, centred 10 cm above the enclosure floor.

a) If a snake was coiled up directly below the bulb such that it had a coil radius of 8 cm, and absorbed 11 % of any incident radiation, calculate how much energy the snake would absorb from the bulb per second. You may assume that the air absorbs a negligible amount of this radiation.

b) The enclosure floor features a soil layer, 32 cm deep, topped with 5 cm of sand, all sitting on a heating mat at 21 oC. If the thermal conductivities of soil and sand are 0.364 Wm-1K-1 and 2.04 Wm-1K-1 respectively, and the rate of heat flow through the floor is 0.33 Wm-2, calculate the surface temperature of the enclosure
