A man with superpowers fies from the top of a building as shown in the figure (a) What are the horizontal and vertical components of the mans 164 m displacement (On m), 9-25.07 Use signs to indicate the directions of the displacement components (Use signs to indicate the directions of the displacement components.) horlzontal displacement vertical displacement (b) What if? A man observes the superhero through a window located 29.0 m below the top of the bulding. What is the superheros position (in m) relative to the man at the end of the displacement in part (a)? Answer #1

a)

Horizontal position of Superman = 164m x cos25 = 148.6 m

vertical position of Superman = 164m x sin25 = - 69.3 m ( - sign introduced since we are measuring - Y-axis)

b)

if observer is 29 m vertically below, then in his frame

horizontalposition of Superman = 148.6 m ( since there is shift observer along x-axis)

vertical position = -69.3m + 29.0 = -40.3 m
