Since unknown react with H2/Pd thus, molecule contain alkene double bond and have also aromatic ring as it is present in product of reaction with H2/Pd.

KMnO4 oxidize alkene double bond to Carboxylic acid or Carbonyl compound. Since in this case COOH group is attached to next to aromatic ring hence double bond is present next to aromatic ring. Hence, structure become :
