Term Main entry Meaning

1.Eosinophil Eosi-no-phil   An eosinophil is a type of white blood cell. ... Elevated levels often mean your body is sending more and more white blood cells to fight off infections. An eosinophil count is a blood test that measures the quantity of eosinophils in your body.

2.Fibrin Fi-bri-n an insoluble protein formed from fibrinogen during the clotting of blood. It forms a fibrous mesh that impedes the flow of blood.

3.Erythrocyte Ery-th-ro-cyte a red blood cell, which (in humans) is typically a biconcave disc without a nucleus. Erythrocytes contain the pigment haemoglobin, which imparts the red colour to blood, and transport oxygen and carbon dioxide to and from the tissues.

4.Heparin : He-pa-rin : a compound occurring in the liver and other tissues which inhibits blood coagulation. A sulphur-containing polysaccharide, it is used as an anticoagulant in the treatment of thrombosis

5.Neutropenia : Neu-tro-pe-nia : Neutropenia is a condition that results when the body does not have enough neutrophils, an important white blood cell that fights infections. . .. Neutropenia is defined as an absolute neutrophil count (ANC) of less than 1500 per microliter (1500/microL).

7.Hemochromatosis:hemo-chro-ma-to-sis :An inherited disorder characterized by abnormally high absorption of iron by the intestinal tract, resulting in excessive storage of iron, particularly in the liver, skin, pancreas, heart, joints, and testes. ... 8. Hemophilia - he-mo-phi-lia _  Hemophilia is a rare disorder in which your blood doesn't clot normally because it lacks sufficient blood-clotting proteins (clotting factors). If you have hemophilia, you may bleed for a longer time after an injury than you would if your blood clotted normally

9.Albumin : al-bu-min - The main protein in human blood and the key to regulating the osmotic pressure of blood. Chemically, albumin is soluble in water, precipitated by acid, and coagulated by heat.

10.Thrombocyte: th-rom-bo-cy-te:A platelet. Crucial to normal blood clotting. Although platelets are sometimes classed as blood cells, they are not. They are fragments of a large cell called a megakaryocyte (literally, a large cell).

3. Antibody:an-ti.body:An immunoglobulin, a specialized immune protein, produced because of the introduction of an antigen into the body, and which possesses the remarkable ability to combine with the very antigen that triggered its production. ... Some antibodies are autoantibodies and home in against our own tissues.

4. Interferons:in-ter-fe-rons:A naturally occurring substance that interferes with the ability of viruses to reproduce. Interferon also boosts the immune system. There are a number of different interferons. ... The goal of interferon therapy is to eradicate a virus from an infected person.

10.Thymectomy:thy-mec-to-my:A thymectomy is an operation to remove the thymus. It usually results in remission of myasthenia gravis with the help of medication including steroids. However, this remission may not be permanent. Thymectomy is indicated when thymoma are present in the thymus.
