While there has probably never been a time when there was so much talent performing Irish traditional music, musicians in Ireland find many challenges to making a decent living playing traditional music. In Ireland, pub culture is on the decline for a variety of reasons. The Great Recession forced hundreds of pubs to close, while at the same time many younger Irish prefer other venues for their leisure-time pursuits (and other music). Irish traditional music is not often heard on Irish radio, usually relegated to off hours or weekends by stations observing a voluntary quota of Irish content. Finally, some musicians lament that they are better appreciated outside of Ireland than within, at least when it comes to making money through performances. This is partly due to supply and demand: in Ireland there is an oversupply of musical talent and a declining number of paying venues willing to host professional traditional musicians. For this discussion question, provide your opinion (post a new thread or comment on an existing one) about your live music listening habits. Is there something similar going on in your home city in terms of changing social venues that host music? Is it better to splurge on a few big concerts or go to a lot of local venues? Do you find places that are like Irish sessions, that is, not formal performances but more than background music for like minded fans? Do you prefer venues with recorded or mixed music rather than live performances? If so, why? Do you think that most of the live music you see is performed by amateurs, semi-professionals, or professionals? Like Irish music in Ireland, is there an oversupply of certain kinds of music in your city? Answer or comment upon any of these questions (2-4 sentences are fine).

Irish music has a long history, that has evolved over time, nowadays the Irish music is used in collaboration with European and American music, the main traditional instruments that are commonly used are the fiddle, Irish flute, tin whistle, Celtic harp, uilleann pipes, and bodhrán. The traditional songs are commonly known as folk songs and folk music, these traditional music has remained vibrant through the 20th and into the 21st century.

In my hometown, that live music is still loved and appreciated, there are a number of venues where professional musicians play their music.

In my hometown, it is the folk music and folk dance that is commonly played in villages, the folk dances are particularly related to nature, and the changing season, different region have different folk music and there are a number of languages that are spoken and each territory is different from others, thus the music is also different, but these folk music are sometimes romantic songs related to local couple, who against all odds have tried to love each other.

I love to listen to recorded music as well as live concert if the band is known and famous, otherwise, there are many immature artists who copy the original track, not all the new performers are bad, there are exceptionally good player also.

My city in Mumbai in India, it is the city that is overloaded with artists, there are number of artists who can sing and perform live music and folk music as well, this city is the city of opportunity, if you are successful, then there is no limit, there are audience, as well as critics, both are necessary for success.
