An Oil Rig is located a = 11 miles from a straight coastline. An Oil Refinery is located 16 miles down the coastline. The cost of putting in a pipeline from the Oil Rig to the Oil Refinery depends on whether it is on land or in the water. Rather than coming directly to the shoreline and then turning at a Right Angle, suppose that the Oil Pipeline met the shore at a point b = 5 miles from the "Right Angle". If the cost is $8000 per mile for land and $15000 per mile for water, what is the cost of the Pipeline?

Do not use a $ sign or any commas in your answer.

    a) Formulate a cost function along with constraints, if any, for the following optimization problems. You don't need to solve any of these problems i) Two electric generators are interconnected to provide total power to meet the load. Suppose each generator's cost (C) is a function of its power output P (in terms of units), and costs per unit are given by: C2 = 1 + 0.6P2 + P22 (for Generator 2). -1-P -Pi2 (for Generator 1), If the total...

Three days before Hurricane Harvey hit Texas, hardware retailer Home Depotreceived an alert from a weather service and activated its disaster-response plan to get supplies to those in the storm’s path, while turning a profit, too. Over the next three days—as Harvey gained power and made landfall early on Saturday—the world’s largest home improvement retailer set up a temporary hurricane command center at its Atlanta headquarters. It told managers to freeze prices and move plywood, generators, chainsaws and other storm-related...
