answer 1) the north pole of a compass does not point towards the earth's geographical north pole, in fact it points towards the south magnetic pole. as we know like and like cannot attract each other and opposites attract, so the north pole of a compass points towards the south magnetic pole of the earth which is earths geographical north pole, its only called north pole because the the north pole of the magnet points towards that direction.
