The atomic number of an element equals the number of electrons in that element. In an atom, the number of electrons (negative charge) is always equal to the number of protons (positive charge). This is the reason that the atom as a whole is always neutral.

For any charged species, the total number of electrons depends upon the nature of the charge if it is positive or negative. For positive charge, number electrons are subtracted from atomic number equals the magnitude of charge, and for a negative charge, electrons are added to atomic number.

Atomic number of Nickel is 28. It is represented by symbolNi{\rm{Ni}}. Therefore, number of electrons will be 2828. Ni+2{\rm{N}}{{\rm{i}}^{{\rm{ + 2}}}} has two positive charges. So, two electrons are removed from it and thus, the total number of electrons would be2626.

There are1818electrons in the atom. Therefore, the number of protons will be1818. There is 11 negative charge. So, the number of protons will be1717.

Ans:

The number of electrons in theNi+2{\rm{N}}{{\rm{i}}^{{\rm{ + 2}}}} is 2626.

The number of protons are 17.
