Answer #1
Concepts and reason

Alkyne is converted to germinal dihalide by using organic and inorganic reagents. Conversion of alkyne to germinal dihalide involves three steps. They are deprotonation of alkyne, reaction with alkyl halide, and hydrohalogenation of alkyne.

Fundamentals

For deprotonation strong base (NaNH2){\rm{(NaN}}{{\rm{H}}_{\rm{2}}}) , and for hydrohalogenation of an alkyne 2equivalentsofHBr{\rm{2}}\;{\rm{equivalents}}\;{\rm{of}}\;{\rm{HBr}} is used. In hydrohalogenation Markovnikov’s product (i.e. nucleophile is added at more substituted carbon) is formed.
