9. You titrate an acid into a base to determine the concentration of the base. The endpoint of the neutralization is reached but the stopcock on the buret sticks slightly and allows a few more drops of acid to fall into the solution. 9. The amount is acid need to neutralize base is noted more than what is needed. Thus eventually the calculated value of concentration of the base also deviates giving more positive value. As more acid is used, more base will be measured than the actual value.

If the stopclock of burette allows more drops of acid into the conical flask, the burette reading will be more that is the volume of acid used is more.

The amount of acid used depends on the amount of base present in the base solution. The amount of acid used to neutralize base is directly proportional the concentration of base in the solution.

Thus with increasing amount of acid, the concentration of base in further calculations increases.
