Upon assessment you notice the patient is little drowsy, but awakens easily when aroused. His ABG results are as follows: pH=7.39, PaCO2=52, PaO2=50, HCO3=28, SaO2=85% with patient currently on 21pm NC. 2. The physician orders for the patient to be placed on a non-rebreather mask. Do you agree with the physician order? Be sure include reasons why you agree or disagree with the physicians order. If you disagree, explain what changes if any need to be made to the oxygen delivery.

Ans:- in this case doctor ordered a non rebreather mask to a copd patient.

I don't agree with that decision

although patient need rapid oxygen therapy but non rebreather mask is not safe option because if the flow of oxygen to this mask in less than minute ventilation that commonly seen copd then the risk of carbon dioxide re breathing is increase which causes co2 narcosis.

This patient can more easily manage by usingssimple face mask with oxygen flow 5liter/minute
