Answer #1

Dental health checkups are important for oral health and hygiene of children. During early years of life children have temporary teeth that are replaced by permanent teeth. Healthy temporary teeth, gums and surrounding tissue ensure for a strong foundation for permanent teeth and reduces the risks for many oral problems.

Parents should be educated about the role of dentists in caring for their child’s dental health and promoting healthy oral care practices. Any child who have temporary teeth should visit the dentist. Early dental checkups will help assess the risks for any kind of dental carries, cavities and other problems. Dentist visit will also help diagnose any oral problems and their timely treatment.

Dentists will also educate the child with healthy food habits with restricted amount of sweets which will help reduce risk for developing dental problems. Dentist also teaches the child about correct toothbrushing techniques.

As the child reaches the age of 5 years, the temporary teeth will fall and replaced by permanent teeth. At this time the teeth needs to be taken care of more than usual. Dental checkup will help assess the growth of permanent teeth.
