Answer #1
Annulling a marriage is a  legal procedure which cancels a marriage  and it declares that the marriage never technically existed and was never valid.
In case Matthew and Christy they got married on November 21, 2017 and in March of 2018 their marriage annulled, tax filling return due date April 15 had not been passed so they can amend the returns for year 2017 under the appropriate filing status – either as a single taxpayer or as head of household, depending on their circumstances. In year 2018 they can file  either as a single taxpayer or as head of household, depending on their circumstances.
