Let r1 is the diffusion rate of gas and r2 is for SO2.

It is given that,

r1 = 2*r2

We know that,

(r1/r2)^2 = M2/M1

(2)^2 = 64/M1

M1 = 16

Molar mass of gas is 16.

Hence, gas is methane CH4
