One of the articles I have selected for our group presentation on a Nurse’s role in obtaining and witnessing informed consent is titled: “A nurse’s duty to warn of risks extends to aftercare as well as initial consent” by Richard Griffith. The level of measurement that Griffith implemented throughout his article is the ordinal method. I say this because the ordinal level of measurement can be used to separate subjects into groups for comparison (Houser, 2018). In his article Griffith states that “the significance of a risk to a patient reflects a variety of factors besides its magnitude, such as the nature of the risk, the effect an occurrence of the adverse event would have on the life of the patient, the importance to the patient of the benefits sought through the treatment, the alternatives available, and the risks involved in those alternatives (Griffith, 2018).” Griffith supports the fact that the research is fact sensitive as well as “sensitive to the patient’s characteristics” (Griffith, 2018). Taking all the aforementioned variables into consideration (the risk, the available alternatives, the patient’s quality of life post-treatment), the researcher can organize and rank the level of significance for each. This fits into the description of what the ordinal level of measurement is comprised of. As a result of using this method, Griffith can obtain a percentile, frequency and median based on classification and not necessarily for quantitative/statistical analysis. He can further rank his findings to help narrow down where the problem exists.
the main focus of this article was the scale used by griffith that is ordinal scale of measurement which allows for rank order by which data can be seperated but it does not allow any kind of differences between them
for example as discussessed in the article nature of risk
we can arrange it like this procedure was
very risky
risky
less risky
very less risky
not risky
by this we can not quantify the difference between very risky and risky and the another group of risky any less risky so the data by this method can be arranged in an order but can not be used to obtain the mean but can be used to obtain the mode and median
as told by griffith that this research data was mainly focused on the quality of the patient care as descibed by the variables used by him so this method of data measurement was accurate

Please help with a response to this peer discussion: Do you know if this is a great response for ordinal level research, if so, why/ Hello professor. Our group topic is focused on informed consent, and the effects that it has if given too soon or too late. Patients have the right to informed consent, and it is the healthcare team’s duty to make sure that it is obtained, and that the patient thoroughly understands his/her procedure at hand. For...
