Answer #1

Step 1:

Convert weight lbs into kg.

Child weighs = 47lbs

1kg = 2.2lb

47lb = 47 / 2.2

= 21.3 kg

Step 2:

Calculate dose as per weight

Recommended dose per kg = 0.3mg

Therefore recommended dose for 21 kg = Dose X weight

= 0.3 X 21.3

= 6.39mg

Step 3:

Calculate the amount of syrup in mL

Amount = Ordered dose X quantity

Dose on hand

Ordered dose = 6.39mg

Dose on hand( albuterol syrup available) = 2mg

Quantity = 5mL

By substituting on the formula,

Amount of solution = 6.3 9/ 2 X 5

= 15.975mL

Rounded as = 16mL

For the whole day, 16mL of albuterol syrup is needed for the child.
