why is it important to assess the patient for use of herbal products prior to surgery

Using of herbs as medicine goes back to ancient time and we used it to treat several diseases.But that does not mean natural products are safe and does not cause any side-effects.

Herbs may react with anesthesia in a bad way and causes severe bleeding before and after the surgery.They react with different drugs we use to operate and have a bad reaction with them which causes several complications during and after the surgery.

The herbal products are not certified by FDA.They may be safe but they may cause severe reactions to the drugs we use during surgery or any other medicine.So the patient should tell the herbal supplements they are taking tho the health provider prior to surgery and they should be stopped using 3 weeks before surgery.
