Solution -
The error is that you did not took the conservation of angular momentum principle into the account after the electromagnet has been turned off and the other rod has been released so in this case the angular velocity of the pivoted end rod would change once you equate the conservation of angular momentum for initial and final conditions .
Here in solution you assumed the that releasing the other rod would not change the angular velocity and in the calculation you have kept it as it is and this made your answer wrong.
Apply the conservation of the momentum principle and then calculate the angular velocity of pivoted rod in final situation when other rod has separated off the use that value in final calculation you will get the desired results .

Two uniform rods of identical mass and identical length are rotating with identical rotational kinetic energy. The first rod is rotating about and axis that passes through its left end and points perpendicular to the rod. The second rod is rotating about an axis that passes through its center and points perpendicular to the rod. Which rod has a larger magnitude of angular velocity? a. They both have the same magnitude of angular velocity. b. The second rod. c. The...
Problem 1 Two identical pucks, each of inertia m, are connected to a rod of length 2r and negligible inertia that is pivoted about its center (that is, there is some sort of pin though its center, around which it can rotate without friction). A third puck of inertia m/2 strikes one of the connected pucks perpendicular to the rod with a speed vi. Assume the collision is elastic. (a) Draw a diagram of the situation, clearly labeling the direction...

Angular Momentum and Inelastic Collisions Two balls, each with mass M/2, are attached to the ends of a thin rod of length L = 0.45 m and negligible mass. The rod is free to rotate in a horizontal plane without friction about a fixed vertical axis through its center. With the rod initially at rest (as shown), two wads of wet putty hit the balls at the same time and stick to them. Assume that the wads of putty have...

A piece of clay of mass m moving horizontally at a speed v hits the rod a distance x from the pivot and sticks to it. Discussion Questions: (In the first 5-10 min a random group will be selected to explain.) • What “type” of collision is happening? What is and is not conserved? • Consider the analogous linear momentum...
