Answer #1

8Al(s) + Fe2O3(s) -------> Al2O3(s) + 2Fe(s) + 202.8kcal/mol

i) Stoichiometrically, 8moles of Al gives 202.8kcal of heat

Mole = mass/molar mass

moles of Al = 30.0g/26.98g/mol = 1.1119mol

Heat generated by 30.0g of Al reaction = ( 202.8kcal/8mol) × 1.1119mol

= 28.19 kcal

ii) Moles Al needed = ( 8mol/202.8kcal) × 1000kcal = 39.448mol

stoichiometrically, 8moles of Al react with 1mole of Fe2O3

39.448 moles of Al react with 4.931moles of Fe2O3

Therefore

mass of Al required = 39.448mol × 26.98g/mol = 1064.3g

maas of Fe2O3 required = 4.931mol × 159.7g/mol = 787.5g
