A good selection system is very important, because it ensures that candidates who are selected, hold the eligibility, qualification and experience to meet the jobs and its associated job description, and perform the tasks, in a way that can meet the benchmark performance level. Further, it is the selection system, that matches not only the technical skills of the individuals with the jobs for that they are selected, but also the emotional balance & intelligence of the candidates and their ability to adapt to the organizational culture. These aspects taking care, at the time of selection, makes organization to be successful as these employees become an asset of competitive advantage in the marketplace.

A poor selection system, can bring different problems and issues to the organization. These issues are, the inability of the selected employees to get adapted to the organizational culture, mismatch between the job requirements and the skills owned by the selected employees and lack of expertise among the selected candidates to perform the task. It makes, higher turnover, poor performance at work, failure to achieve organizational goals. It creates financial losses. Further, legal issues are also present, if the rules regarding the discrimination are not complied by the organization during the selection process. It will attract more number of legal suits against the organization if bias in selection takes place on the basis of race, religion, sex and orientation among the others.

Job analysis tells that what type of skills, qualifications, and abilities are required to perform the selected task and duties. Hence, each job requirement has job analysis and accordingly, suitable profile required, is conveyed to the selection committee. On the basis of recommendations, given by the job analysis for each job, selection committee should select the suitable candidates for further negotiation.
