The patients are in the day room watching a movie when suddenly someone starts yelling. You and other staff rush to the day room t find JJ., a 65-year-old male patient, crouched in the corner behind a chair, yelling at the other patients Get down. Get down quick You and the other staff are able to calm JJ. and the other patients and take JJ. to his room. He apologizes for his outburst and explains to you that the movie brought back memories of Vietnam. He had lost track of where he was and for a few moments, thought he was in combat again. He describes to you in detail the memory he had of being ambushed by the enemy and watching several of his comrades be killed. You remember reading in JJ.s chart that he has PTSD 1. What signs and symptoms did you either witness or did JJ report that would substantiate the diagnosis of PTSD? 2. What therapeutic measures could be done to help JJ. during your shift this evening? 3. What types of medications are being used now to help clients who are suffering from PTSD? Check the latest research and site it in your thread. 4. List three kinds of alternative therapies that are now being used that are having success in relieving some of the symptoms of PTSD.
