1). Cocaine abuse and chronic alcohol consumption are the risk factors of cerebrovascular accident (CVA) in the given patient. Cocaine is a sympathomimetic and is a potent vasoconstrictor. This results in severe cerebral vasoconstriction, reduced cerebral metabolism, vasospasm (can cause thrombosis), and ischemia. Ischemia leads to hypoxia and cell death in the affected brain regions. These changes manifest as "cerebrovascular accident." Chronic alcohol consumption increases the risk of cerebrovascular hemorrhage, thus, increase the risk of CVA.
