Answer #1

1) aniline is a base and hence to extract it from the organic phase i.e. CHCl3 we can use an aqueous HCl solution.

The reaction: Ph-NH2(organic phase) + HCl(aq) ------> PhNH3+Cl-(aq)

Answer is option a) aqueous HCl

2) Benzyl alcohol is an alcohol and hence it neutral in nature. We can not use any base of acid to extract it. Hence answer should be none of these. However, this option is not present in the given series of options.

HCl or NaOH does not react with alcohol to form any salt, Similarly, NH3 also does not react hence answer should none of these.

For this extraction, after removing all other components chloroform is evaporated to obtain benzyl alcohol (PhCH2OH)
