As,the median is the middle value in distribution when the values are arranged in ascending or descending order i.e.  median divides the distribution in two equal halves means that 50% of values on either side of the median value),but mean is the average of all data values,so if some of the values in the data set are extremely high or low,it will affect the value of mean,but in case of median,whether the some values are extremely low or high will not affect the median,as median is just the middle value of organized data.
