Inflammatory brain and spinal cord disease is a medical condition in which there is inflammation of the brain and spinal cord that causes irritation and swelling of brain tissue and blood vessel . It is also called as inflammatory disease of central nervous system .

There are two types of inflammatory central nervous system disease:-
- primary = means inflammation occur without any presence of normal trigger factor ,for example due to immune system malfunction leads to unnecessary inflammation and continues with no resolution if not treated.
- secondary = means inflammation due to presence of any another disease in the body ,for example inflammation occurs as a part of immune response to infection of meninges.
