A solution is the homogeneous mixture of two or more substances which may be gaseous , liquid or solid. A solution containing two substances is called a binary solution. The components which constitute the larger proportion of the solution is called the solvent, while the other is referred to as the solute.

Solution are three types

(a) True solution : The particles of the solute are of molecular size 10^-10 m. They are invisible and do not settle on standing.

(b) Suspension: If the particles settle down on standing such mixture is called suspension.

(c) Colloidal dispersion: There are also particles which are bigger than molecules but smaller than suspended particles. They have a tendency to settle down slowly. These particles are said to be in colloidal state with size of

10^-9 to 10^-6 m. The colloidal solution has dispersed phase (dp) and dispersed medium (dm).

Here the CIGARETTE SMOKE has the dp solid and liquid is the dm, and that for MILK and BLOODPLASMA  dp and dm will be liquid, this soution are colloidal solutions.
