DIAGNOSIS: Adenotonsillar hyperplasia INDICATIONS: This 24-year-old female has had an extensive history of tonsillitis and strep throat. This surgery is a last resort to end this cycle. She is aware of the risks and benefits of this surgery and has given written consent. PROCEDURE: Patient presented to the operating room and was placed on the operating table in the supine position. She was induced with general anesthesia and then prepped and draped in the usual fashion. Attention was directed to the right tonsil. The tonsil was clutched near the superior pole, retracted medially and inferiorly. The anterior pillar was dissected from the superior to inferior and then anterior to posterior. The tonsil was freed and removed. The left tonsil was removed in the same manner. Attention was then directed to the adenoids through the nares. The soft palate was retracted superiorly and the adenoid tissue was identified. An adenoid curette was used to remove the adenoids. Gauze packing was used and then all points were cauterized.
