Regenerate Resonance structure:
In the molecule, If two resonance structure has equal energy is called a degenerate resonance structure.
1) In the first molecule ClO2- , the central atom chlorine is sp3 hybridised and which have two lone pair so the molecular shape is V-shape.
2) In the second molecule HClN-NClH, the central atom (N) is sp3 hybridised and which have one lone pair so the molecular shape is Trigonal Pyramidal.
3) In the third molecule CO32- , the central atom carbon is sp2 hybridised. The shape of the molecule is Trigonal planar.
4) In the fourth molecule OCN- the central atom carbon is sp-hybridised. The shape is linear. Carbon bond with two different atoms (N.O) which makes OCN- is polar compound. This compound has a resonance structure but they are not equal energy (not a degenerate).
