Starch can be transformed into a substance which gives a negative iodine test and a positive Benedict's test by treating the starch with dilute hydrochloric acid.

Reason: Acid hydrolyses the glycosidic bond present in the starch which convert starch into glucose which is a reducing sugar and thus it gives negative iodine test and a positive Benedict's test.
