Question

A woman driving at the speed limit in a 25 mi/hour zone enters a zone where the speed limit is 45 mi/hour. She accelerates at a constant rate and reaches the new speed limit in 6.00 s. What distance does the car travel during that acceleration? (Be careful with your units) 1.

Answer #1

V = 45mi/hr = 20.12m/s

U = 25mi/hr = 11.17m/s

From V - U = at

=) a = (20.12 - 11.17)/6 = 1.404 m/s^2

Now distance S = (V^2 - U^2 )/2a = (20.12^2 - 11.17^2 )/2×1.404

=) S = 97.6m

    I'm driving down the highway in my car, at a speed of 25 m/s. Some jerk cuts me off and rapidly slows down, so I have to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting him. (a) If I brake for 5.0 s down to a speed of 15 m/s, what was my acceleration during that period? You may assume that my acceleration was constant. A car and a train move together along straight, parallel paths with the same constant cruising speed v0. At t=0 the car driver notices a red light ahead and slows down with constant acceleration −a0. Just as the car comes to a full stop, the light immediately turns green, and the car then accelerates back to its original speed v0 with constant acceleration a0. During the same time interval, the train continues to travel at the constant speed v0. How...
